[IFFR '25] The first cinematic proposal by photographer and experimental artist Sammy Baloji may have difficulty holding attention due to its excessively methodical conception, relying on three narrators and an analytical look at the colonial past and its influence on the present of African populations. But it opens a very suggestive dialogue that unfolds in different narrative layers about the transmission of a capitalist concept that maintains Western dominance over the permanence of extractivism as the global economic base. While it offers a more anthropocentric view in the first two parts, the third is shown in a more poetic way, and transmits a deeper tone through surround sound.
