The fourth installments of “Friday the 13th” and “Lake Placid” have one thing in common: the subtitle “The Final Chapter.” And, of course, in both cases, this is a blatant lie, as several more films followed. The big difference between the two films, however, is that the fourth Jason slasher is one of the best entries in the entire series, while the fourth crocodile flick is just another cheap made-for-TV sequel. But at least it's the first time the plot has been continued with a character returning. And since I kind of liked Yancy Butler's Reba in the third film, that's not a bad thing. I also find the new lead actress, Elisabeth Röhm, quite likeable, and Robert Englund is, of course, never a bad choice in a horror film. However, since the effects are once again extremely poor and the gore once again falls short of expectations, “Lake Placid: The Final Chapter” is not a good animal horror film either. But it is once again a slight improvement on its direct predecessor. And that is certainly not a given with these kinds of TV flicks.

Honestly, this one wasn't as bad as the previous sequels. I think they really made an effort to turn things around for this franchise by bringing back Yancy Butler's character, whom I liked. The writers actually made an effort to develop character arcs, which is ground breaking stuff, for a Lake Placid sequel. 😂

Achieves what it sets out to be. Unfortunately, it doesn't set out to be good.
