While this movie is a bit uneven, it really is a sneaky-good film. In the hands of a different director, this probably would have been another stupid comedy. But the movie has surprising depth, and the chemistry between the leads is excellent. I particularly enjoyed Midler's character - it would have been easy to make her one-dimensional and focus more on the Hunt's character, but that didn't happen. The film works best as a drama, and it earned the final scene.
