The movie really got to me... [spoiler] - I love the beginning of the movie, how the movie goes into the classroom and already “knows” its path - How shitty the initial situation was, then again the fucked-up fireworks… terrible for the veteran, terrible for the dog, and the dog is still there for the veteran - Then again: Money is the most important thing - the veteran felt like trash because he was unable to work and had no money for his family and then he just ran away - I can relate to that so hard: you’ve worked for years, then there’s a system problem and you are powerless and want to run away the most, so you’re not a burden to others - Then how heartbreaking it was when he left the dog at the clinic and you thought the dog would be put down - How the female doctor had a good heart and how the story touched the people too and they wanted to help - How beautifully the storyline with the daughter was picked up again and brought together - How you learn from the movie that it’s always worth fighting, never giving up, and Duke is the best role model for that - How no one can tear apart the love for the dog and for your own daughter - And the ending was beautiful too, where the father can work again and then the sugar cube was picked up again, also the house building, where earlier the father wanted to do that out of his “own” strength to get money again [/spoiler] From a story perspective really 11/10 written, truly one of the best storylines I’ve ever watched. Also how beautiful the references and the buildup of the plot are in the movie… world class. And then on top of that how fucking sad the story is, but it still teaches you to always keep fighting and Duke stands exactly for that. [spoiler]And Duke is also the reason at the end why the father doesn’t give up after all and dares a new beginning. The movie really had everything: beautiful moments, blows of fate, and despite all that a very good, not artificial happy ending.[/spoiler]
