I saw this movie in a full packed cinema. Here in the Netherlands we don't walk out of movie and demand our money back, but i am pretty sure that most of those with me who saw it thought this movie was a disappointment afterwards. The 3D feature was a joke. And that is putting it lightly. It was nothing more than an extra layer they put over the movie to make it look like 3D. It was nothing like in Avatar or How To Train Your Dragon, more like that other failed "3D" movie: Clash of the Titans. Its obvious that the only reason they put it in there was because it was the hype of the time and it would attract more visitors (AKA: more tickets, more money) to the cinema. I have to say i was very disappointed in Tim Burton. I expected more of him, this story seemed right up his alley. But he put way too much devotion into making the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) as the star of the movie instead of Alice who seemed more to be the supporting cast than the main star. All in all i would say: go see it once, WITHOUT the 3D effect and than forget it ever existed.
A very unique re-telling of the classic Alice in Wonderland tale. I find this movie is a lot easier to enjoy if you pretend its not really related to Alice at all. As a stand alone movie it is very unique. It is funny, emotional and well written. Also the presence of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway is always a good thing!
I just watched this movie for the first time yesterday. Through the entire movie I thought, "What the **** is going on?" Visually it's very impressive and interesting. Outside of that, I don't know what to think. Plot was difficult to follow (though that may have been intentional) and even with subtitles turned on, I was confused throughout. Nevertheless, my kids enjoyed it and I will say that it did capture that sense you get in a dream where one weird thing seamlessly morphs into another, but it all makes perfect sense to you in the dream & doesn't faze you at all. Alice doesn't seemed fazed by any of the weirdness around her, just like you and me in our dreams. Also, I would never want to live in Tim Burton's head. If his movies are any indication (and they ARE...) then it is a scary place to be.
Perfectly mad. I still love Burton's movies, also the combination with Depp has to stay.
