Why is there woke cr*p everywhere, why are they pushing it so much? It's nauseating. I am from Austria and in the 13th century we didn't have Middle Eastern brown people in our country. Heck, there wasn't any Middle Eastern brown people anywhere in Western Europe, not in der Schweiz and not in Austria. Cut this nonsense out!!!! This is the same as having a brown skinned Colombian girl playing Snow White. What kind of medications are you guys there in Hollyweird????? This movie had potential but when I saw the first brown skinned person I shut it off because it has nothing to do with reality.

While William (Willhelm) Tell is an important figure in the history of Switzerland, this movie does unfortunately not preset him the right way to a worldwide public. The movie does have the potential to be excellent, but it does not live up to that potential. On the one hand, it seems to assume that most viewers are at least familiar with the basic historic context of the story. Come on. It is Switzerland in the 13th century. Most people in the US are not even familiar with the Vietnam war anymore … They really should have explained the historical context of the story. The same goes for the main protagonists, which might be familiar to some but are certainly not to a worldwide public. Then there is this idiotic woke crap of integrating without any sense or historical truth some Middle Eastern characters in a story that happened amongst the most white Europeans imaginable: Swiss mountain farmers in the 13th century. Most of them did not even know at the time that people with other skin colours even existed. That is just fact, so why falsify history to please present dreamers’ feelings. Tell its as it was. It is history, not make a wish cinema. It is really unfortunate that the potential of these interesting historical events have not been conveyed in an interesting and educational way, especially as all the potential was there. A shame.

I want to give this a higher rating but two things are keeping it low. The runtime is far too long, 30 minutes in, and the pace and story got entirely predictable and I lost interest. If you like stage plays or period pieces then I'd give it a chance because the production and attention to detail is outstanding. I wasn't expecting it to be so stylistically well-crafted. Unfortunately, the majority of the actors feel miscast so there's no reason enough for me to give this a rewatch.

Production values are very good. The historical context appears to have been given short shrift, however some lessons are provided in very tiny doses scattered throughout. I had two complaints about the casting: in addition to the presence and centrality of two Arab characters, one of whom had no historical explanation, there was a pair of female characters who were easily confused. One was supposed to be of Swiss & Habsburg mixed heritage, the other a Swiss canton noblewoman. It would have been simple to cast two women whose appearance differed, as the unfamiliar story of this historical chapter provides enough confusion. A breath of fresh air…an historical film which can't be criticized for being predictable, as current viewers have little to no idea what happened!

It was a nice try but fun fight scenes couldn't save this pretentious-somewhat bloated movie
