Good fun with John Cleese.
Filled with both sensibilities from the 80s and from the UK. The sort of stuff I always wonder about. Because I'm never sure how much of this is humor from the movies and how much of it was actual narratives of the time. But for all that it is pretty consistent and decently written but I watch a lot of bad movies so it may just be that the bar is very low. One thing I'll say is that Cleese's Stimpson is a detestable character of the sort that I CAN tolerate. I agree with Siskel & Ebert on a lot of their thoughts. I think this would be an utter hilarious 12 minute short film on YouTube. I do think the movie is too long dragging out what is essentially a road trip film. They do have an impressively large number of interesting and distinct locations. But they don't do enough with them. I will say I thought the ending speech was funny though. There I diverge. It wasn't funnest thing I've seen this year funny and it probably wasn't worth the lead up to it but it was funny. Dry British humor or not it needed something more like Adam Sander's Billy Madison ending.
