Very important subject mishandled by Spielberg and given the Hollywood shine.
The opening scene was great, it grabbed my attention right away. The scene where they get taken slaves is brutal too. But besides those scenes this is a slow court drama and not a great one. The acting is pretty good but this is just too long and drags too much.
I don’t watch a lot of films about historical events or era pieces because they can often be slow and feel long. Surprisingly, Amistad didn’t feel as long as its run time. It was well acted and stayed engaging.
The list of slaves brought to the United States. Great Hopkins.
You can learn some lesser known facts about the time of slavery in the US. The movie also gives food for thought on the subject.
