Very bad. Glitterish, ADHD movie for brains of gen z or later. White heterosexuals are antagonists, meeto crap. Low quality dialogs, noisy, messy.
I went into this extremely excited and left relatively disappointed. There are too many ideas jockeying to be the point of the film. Making it feel messy and disjointed most of the time. Which is unfortunate because the performances are good, I like some of the ideas that are presented, and the film oozes style. I just wish I liked the total package as much as I loved the style. Absolutely all over the place. Looks great and the performers are giving their all, but can't seem to make up its mind about what it is or what it's trying to say. Getting strong Joker 2 and Megalopolis vibes.
I was not expecting this to homage every other Frankenstein film -- including Young Frankenstein!
There is a lot to love in The Bride!. Jessie Buckley can steal a scene with a single look, and her costume design is genuinely magnificent. Christian Bale is quite strong as Frank. He needed more opportunity to be a monster, but his romantic side was convincingly portrayed. The overall tone is one of the film's greatest strengths, and the setting gives the movie both grit and a strange kind of glamour. It is a movie full of ideas, striking imagery, and unmistakable artistic ambition. But like the creature at its center, the story feels stitched together from compelling parts that never fully come alive.
