I think the ratings for Canadian Sniper are lower because, despite the title, it’s not your typical sniper or military action movie. I was expecting that too, but it’s actually more of a character study about a sniper adjusting to life after service. The movie sets that tone right from the start, so it’s easy to move past any initial expectations. I ended up really enjoying it. it’s a great example of a film that explores its themes without being smug or preachy.
