“Death Rage” is a film that doesn’t quite live up to its intriguing title. Starring Yul Brynner as a retired hitman seeking revenge for his brother’s murder, the movie promises a gritty, action-packed ride but ultimately falls flat. Brynner delivers a solid performance, bringing his signature intensity to the role. However, the rest of the film lacks the same energy. The plot is predictable, and the pacing drags at times, leaving long stretches of dull moments between action scenes. The supporting characters are underdeveloped, and the dialogue feels stiff and uninspired. While there are some decent action sequences, they don’t do enough to elevate the movie. The cinematography and direction are serviceable but unremarkable, giving the film a low-budget feel that might appeal to die-hard fans of 1970s exploitation cinema but little more. In the end, “Death Rage” is a passable revenge thriller but doesn’t offer much to set it apart from other films of the genre. It’s watchable, but just barely.
