Opened Netflix found Kingdom, and Vijay Deverakonda is straight-up fire but the movie ain't. Alright, picture this: a slick Telugu spy thriller with Vijay as Soori, a cop on a mission to find his brother Siva (Satyadev, who’s amazing). Their chemistry was good, when they both were on screen, the screen presence is felt. Vijay’s a beast, time and again he's proven his versatility and Satyadev matches him. Venkitesh V.P.’s villain is evil, you can feel it but Bhagyashri Borse, yes she was undeniably gorgeous, but her role’s so small and motivations unclear. And her dynamic with Vijay, so fast and so forced. Anirudh’s music rocks, theme’s stuck in my head, and it’s not his usual style. But it's a banger. Action’s tight, with Soori outsmarting everyone, not just punching. Gowtam Tinnanuri directs with style, and the visuals were also okay. Big win: no cringey masala tropes - no item songs, no cheesy lines, no explicit romantic scenes. But, oof, the screenplay’s shaky. Start feels slow, then it’s zoom, no time to feel the emotions. Story’s predictable, ripping off KGF and Salaar vibes. Cartel drama, chosen one stuff, and a Part 1 ending? Ugh, really? Also, why do guys with guns run in with knives? Just shoot, man! The brother conflict could’ve been epic but resolves too fast. Still, Vijay carries it, Anirudh’s score is chef’s kiss, and both brothers get solid screen time. It’s Vijay’s ambitious project, and it shows, he gave his all.
