What an intriguing way to make a movie, it plays out like an extended music video for the whole Discovery album. There's no dialogue in the whole film, as it isn't necessary as the music and animation does a wonderful job of telling the story. Of course, if you don't enjoy Daft Punk's music, this will become torturous as it's pretty much the only thing that plays throughout the movie.
Very interning film for one of the best electronic/house albums ever. Great animation.
Interstella 5555 is a timeless masterpiece, a visual symphony that brings Discovery to life, track by track. Growing up listening to Daft Punk since my teen years, well before their Tron fame, this movie feels like an ode to those golden summers of youth—filled with One More Time and the joy of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Each song reminds me of moments when the world felt expansive yet intimate, much like Something About Us. Daft Punk's dedication shines through; they financed this ambitious project themselves, proving their commitment to their art. They didn't let the industry dictate their limits—just like Digital Love defies genre norms, and Aerodynamic redefines what an instrumental can express. This collaboration with Leiji Matsumoto wasn’t just a film—it was Crescendolls, a celebration of their vision, a Superheroes moment of creative triumph. Every scene pulses with the beats of Voyager, the resilience of Veridis Quo, and the emotional depth of Face to Face. It's not just music or animation; it’s a High Life of creativity where two worlds collide in perfect harmony. Watching it now still brings the thrill of Too Long summers filled with discovery—simply a golden era of innovation. This is more than a movie or album; it's Daft Punk's heart and soul, immortalized.
This is not really a movie, it's more like a giant music clip for the album of the DaftPunk. I don't recommend to watch it as a movie you would be disappointed but more if you want to listen to their album, then you have this as background with the adventures of this alien music group.
I was expecting something to be like Pink Floyd The Wall film and while it sort of similar, basically that and Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem both having little to no dialogue outside of the soundtrack in background, this is more of a anime style of Leiji Matsumoto‘s work with Daft Punk songs. The story is easy to understand and while it’s short, the animation work is well done. This is a movie done right where you don’t need dialogue to explain, and it got me invested in the character of Shep and Stella and their relationship. It’s much recommended to listen to entirely of Discovery Album after this since it’s where it’s based on, One More Time is still a banger of a track to listen.
