I have a huge pet peeve for people pretending to play video games in movies when it's so obvious they have no idea how to even use a controller. Even worse when I can see that the controller isn't even turned on. This film's biggest sin is that it has multiple of these scenes.
Pretty woman. Home allone. Finding Nemo. All in one.
I did want to watch this movie, because many people have rated it very highly. Some even claim that it is “like a Tarantino movie”. Well, it is not. In fact, I see it as an insult to Tarantino comparing his movies to this mess. The first third of the movie is nothing more than a soft porn movie with terrible dialogues, bad acting and camerawork that seem to have been made by teens who believe that the overproduced TicToc and Instagram videos are really just made quickly on the fly on a phone and that they can do that too. The second part is similar, with less porn but the writers seem to have intended to see how many times people can say F in their idiotic and futile dialogues. Furthermore, they constantly switch to speaking Russian, forcing you to read the meaningless and stupid dialogues. (I get a book when I want to read a story …). And the plot becomes more and more empty, without any point or direction. If, after having endured the first two thirds, you think that it can only become better, you’ll be surprised. The managed to make it even worse. The plot becomes even more idiotic, unrealistic and stupid and the acting get even worse … yes, I also did not believe that that was possible, but they managed to do it! This movie could have been made as a 10 minutes short movie without loosing any contents. Just find a director who knows what he is doing. In case I was not clear: This movie is a pain to watch. If you do like to suffer through the worst movie of the decade, feel free. But do not say I did not warn you.
I think when people talk about a “star-making performance," they mean something like Mikey Madison's work in "Anora." She's fantastic throughout, giving a multi-layered performance that never falls into clichés. The latter is not something that can be taken for granted with a plot that is somewhat reminiscent of "Pretty Woman." But director Sean Baker has already proven several times in the past that he can tell stories about sex workers without pointing the finger at them. Overall, however, I would say that the whole profession is glorified a little in "Anora," especially in the first third of the film. But since Madison's performance is so refreshingly lighthearted and the tone remains humorous, this doesn't carry too much weight. At some point, there is a relatively clear cut anyway, so that suddenly a completely different kind of movie emerges. Then other characters appear on the screen who are not at all what you would expect. The interplay between Madison's Ani and the other characters ultimately ensures a high entertainment value up to the very end. Baker also finds the appropriate ending for his film. This perfectly rounds off the story about sex and the double standards of society, especially the rich. For me, “Anora” is a complete success. I would only strongly advise people who have a problem with a lot of nudity in films not to go to the movies. For everyone else, it's an obvious recommendation.
I dont know if there is something wrong with me or the people. This movie has 8.2, 8.2! in imdb !! do you realize the magnitude of that, Raiders of the Lost Ark has 8.4 ! Do not belive the hype, absolutely not, this is crazy how you see all the tens for this movie, doesn't anyone seen soft porn before ? Or what you are talking and rating about the magnitude and the strong story, the dialogue, the cinematography the what ? We have 2 hours and 30 minutes of first part sex, a lot of sex and nudity, second part the girl screaming all the time, screaming and yelling and saying f-ing every 10 seconds, that is considered to be a great performance by her and oscar-worthy for all the people, then third part we are searching for a boy. And of course the hideous last 10 minutes. And no you are not allowed to call her a sex worker (not saying prostitute as it offends people), because she isn't, no she is not, clearly our mistake for assuming that. Major overrated, totally below average movie.
