Generally speaking, an excellent movie about alcoholism and hoe it can destroy a family. It is also about how a family is destroyed, namely in this care the wife, who was the alcoholic, who does only see herself and expects everyone to support her. The weakness of the movie is though, that the perspective of the man is not decently reflected. He does all he can to help his wife before and after the clinic. He catches up all she misses to do. He puts his needs behind all else to be there for her an to repair her failings. But when she gets better, she does expect him to continue only adapting to her needs and to put his needs behind. She does not acknowledge his efforts, reward him for them or even help him to come down again from the efforts he made and that drove him to his own limits. Even at the end, this is not really recognised, and, to be sure, the title of the movie also does not reflect that. In reality, mostly those situations go wrong just because of that and because mostly the women (sometimes also the man) do not make the effort to acknowledge the efforts of the other person and do not recognise the emotional exhaustion of the other one. Tzhey continue to blame the other one for their failings, because that is so much more convenient. Nonetheless, the movie get more things right than most movies. And I am hopeful that there sometimes are endings like in the movie, even though life fast thought me that that is rare.

This is what you call a classic. Everyone should watch this.
