Synopsis

Mord mit Aussicht is a German satirical crime comedy television series, produced by ARD, following the adventures of Sophie Haas, a detective from the city that takes a job in the fictional country village of Hengasch. Much of the humour of the series derives from the clichés of both city and provincial lives, in a similar manner to the English comedy crime series Midsomer Murders.

Original German title: *Mord mit Aussicht* Second and third season are the best. Reboot after season three failed to impress. It's not bad per se. In particular, I like Wackernagel. But the new cast can't compete with the excellent cast of the first three seasons with Peters and Mädel towering above everyone else. Best stories in season one through three were keen observations of local townsmen and a subtle commentary about the divide between urban centers and the backcountry. All in all, a lovely homage to rural life. The stories after the reboot are way more far-fetched, less subtle. Sometimes they are silly caricatures that try to mimic the original show's concept. But a caricature of a caricature doesn't work - not for me at least. The first three seasons are among the best of those typical German crime comedy genre. That's a 7/10 or even an 8/10 if your don't base your rating on international (universal) standards but rather compare the show to other German shows (under-funded German shows simply can't compete with Hollywood). The reboot drags this rating down. Currently, it's still a 7/10 but if they add more mediocre episodes my rating will drop down further.
