I can't say enough good things about this show. Nearly everything was executed so well, especially the story and the way the the world kept getting bigger and bigger.
In episode 3 the world expands, and then it expands again in episode 9. It was handled so well.
Then there's the MC. He requested the quiet life, and he was given that. It was his choice to leave and go out into the world, but that's when things really got good. It was so nice to see an MC with a unique personality. As his friendship with Abel grew, you got to see more and more of his sarcastic personality, which was great. Then there were the moments when he lost his temper, and that dichotomy was handled magnificently. It was also nice that while he didn't know he was strong in the beginning, he came to understand it, instead of being oblivious. Also, thankfully....there's no harem, no running from women, or much romance at all except for a budding relationship with Sera. Both the artwork and animation were a bit above average, but there was a weird moment where it almost seemed like they had another company handle the animation.
Particularly when we got the inferno magician's backstory, ep 11.
I don't know what happened but it was only half of a single episode...but the change in quality was definitely noticeable while binging. The depth of magic and lore in this series was awesome. I normally wait at least 6 months to rewatch a show, but I will definitely be rewatching this as soon as I'm done with the rest of the shows from this season. I can't wait, and I'm locked in hoping for a renewal.
It was off to a good start for the water magician, and it wasn't your typical "don't know how strong you are" type of character but turns into an adventure. Interesting world building in the start but it went in too many directions to really get you invested in it. Ryo is an interesting character and I liked him but his development was all over the place, and his reincarnation didn't make any sense in the whole story., but like I said it wasn't bad.
*This covers S1E1-E12*: Wasted potential on storybuilding and animation/art. They spent too much on making Oscar's backstory and Sera-Ryo romance development. I don't need that, just give me better story about Ryo's. Art/animation gets worse after half of the season, but it's still acceptable.
This was a pleasure to watch. Hope we get another season or two.
Anime about background character dialogue.
