Oh boy, the things you could get away with in the nineties.

I used to and still do love this movie! The actors did an amazing job, it was really funny and had it sad times at the same time, definetely a classic, solid 9/10!

It was much funnier back in 1994 when it still was fresh. Jim Carrey's style can wear out pretty fast. But I liked it in ´94 it's just not the kind of movie that does age well. And featuring Cameron Diaz - at least that still counts for something, right ?

The Mask is notable for both spoofing almost the whole history of cinema while at the same time respectfully paying homage to it. The audience is treated to everything from silent film slapstick to lavish musical numbers (with excellent songs), frenzied Tex Avery-styled animation to gangster film suspense. On its surface, the film is a crazy, often funny, hyperactively paced cinematic pastiche.

The Mask isn't trying to be anything other than silly, cartoonish, and entertaining. It fully succeeds. Jim Carrey is basically a special effect in human form and Cameron Diaz sells the movie’s glossy comic book fantasy with ease. The effects are very 1994, which somehow only adds to its charm, and the story knows it needs to keep you moving, keep you smiling, and distract you from asking for realism. It's a great two hours of fun, slapstick, and pure elastic chaos.
