At the end of the 1980s, Stella, Victor, Adèle and Etienne are 20 years old. They take the entrance exam to the famous acting school created by Patrice Chéreau and Pierre Romans at the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre. Launched at full speed into life, passion, and love, together they will experience the turning point of their lives, but also their first tragedy.

Like an Annie Leibovitz class photograph of a prep school where you don't know anyone, Les Amandiers is a well-shot picture of you being excluded. This film about the life of students in a prestigious acting school is directed to perfection by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and has a wonderful cast (especially the leads and Louis Garrel) but there is no door for the spectator to enter the film so we feel shut out and apathetic.
