Spain, 1973. Dictator Francisco Franco has ruled the country since 1939 with an iron fist; but he is now a very old and sick man. The future of the weakened regime is in danger. Admiral Carrero Blanco is his natural successor. The Basque terrorist gang ETA decides that he must die to prevent the dictatorship from continuing.

An excellent political thriller from Pontecorvo. One of the great Italian directors who made a limited amount of films and is best known for Battle for Algiers (1966) and his other masterpiece Kapo (1960). Freedom fighting Basque seperatists try to take out Spain's prime minister and probable successor to Franco. And it's pretty enthralling stuff. It may not have the visual elegance of some of his other works but it's one of my favorite crime films. Expert storytelling and shot in a way that makes the audience feel like a coconspitator.
Recreation, with budgetary limitations, of Carrero's jump.
