In Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, the idle aspirant writer Zeca has been living with Arts Professor Júlia for five years. He is stuck on page 50 of his novel for a long time and Zeca claims lack of inspiration to conclude the plot. He leads a comfortable life from inheritance left by his mother and administrated by his father Humberto. When Zeca sees Júlia alone with her best friend Carol in his flat, he believes that they are having a love affair and becomes obsessed with Carol, following her. Júlia travels to São Paulo with work giving Zeca the perfect opportunity to have an affair with Carol. So begins his complicated life: while Júlia works and studies for her doctorate, Zeca has sex with Carol during the days and with Júlia during the nights. Zeca plots a scheme to stay with either Carol or Júlia but his plan does not go as he hoped.

"You have created your problems, just you can solve them" This movie is full of poetic "catchphrases", but maybe none of them summarize it so well as this one above. We wait the protagonist solve the problems that he had created by himself, but it looks he just make them worse in each minute. In the beginning of the movie, the first-person narration and the zoom in the protagonist's face show us that the movie will be seeing under his vision, thus this movie will show a history under the vision of a asshole, paranoid, depressive and poetical guy, in such a way that watch it is almost like if Fernando Pessoa had made an erotic work or something like that... As a consequence of that, we can notice that the others character have a very weak personality, because, as the protagonist have said, he just think about himself. In any moment of the movie it's developed some layer about Julia, Carol or the father of Zeca, they are summarized in an unique personality, because it's how Zeca see them. I felt the movie tries to create a Dom Casmurro vibe, but (as Dom Casmurro) everybody knows that everything it's just a paranoia of the protagonist and Capitu/Julia doesn't betrayed him.
