The very face of perfection! Who cares about the critics when a movie can perfectly represent someone's life on the big screen. Bokura no Gohan wa Ashita de Matteru has a simple story, but it is incredibly well-written with a flawless chronological narrative. The gender-bending comedy is also a standout. I loved it—it’s not every day we see women taking the initiative and doing the heavy lifting while men take care of light, domestic chores. Based on a novel by Maiko Seo, Masahide Ichii’s Our Meal for Tomorrow is another unconventional romantic drama. The cast features Ryota Hayama (Yuto Nakajima), a high school student who is a lonely and sensitive soul when the film begins (Nakajima is a member of the popular boy band Hey! Say! JUMP). Then, a girl from his class, Koharu Uemura (Yuko Araki), asks him to partner up with her for a sack race... Working from his own script, the director follows this gender-reversed relationship: an emotionally vulnerable guy paired with a no-nonsense, mentally grounded girl. The story also introduces frequently seen plot twists—both medical and romantic—though its handling of them is far more original than usual. Bokura no Gohan wa Ashita de Matteru might seem like an ordinary love story to some, but for me, it is one of the most striking and cute movies I have ever watched. It is absolutely worth watching!
