Synopsis

An excellent, well-paced little picture, but the "big show" moments stop the film dead, and are hugely offensive (horrific might be more the word) to modern sensibilities. Do yourself a favour and be ready to fast forward!

Hot, hot garbage. It's wonderful to see Judy in just about anything, but blackface is a bridge too far. I find Rooney profoundly irritating (but can't deny he has a watchable sort of magnetism), but the story here drags and the music is terrible. A low point in my 1001 movies project.
