A mediocre try on the subject. There are better versions out there.
With _The Mummy’s Hand_, Universal reboots the series and takes it in a new direction. When an archeologist discovers a clue to locating the tomb of the Egyptian Princess Ananka, the high priest of Karnak awakens a mummy to kill the archeologist and his team to prevent them from finding it. While the same backstory for the mummy is kept (along with the film footage), the names have been changed and he’s turning in a golem-like character tasked with doing a master’s bidding. And this change into a mindless killer makes the character a bit more frightening then before. However, the film has a tonal problem; playing more as a buddy comedy for the first half or so. Yet while it’s a bit of a mess, _The Mummy’s Hand_ delivers some frightening chills.
