Aditya Chopra, yes, him, once made this, the most operatic version of a love story possible. Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh in opposition is casting that carries the whole film. The six love stories around them are varying degrees of effective but the central conflict never loses its grip. The music is iconic. The cinematography is stunning. Long, yes. But worth every minute of that length.
