These are the armies of the night. They are 100,000 strong. They outnumber the cops five to one. They could run New York City. Tonight they're all out to get the Warriors.
Prominent gang leader Cyrus calls a meeting of New York's gangs to set aside their turf wars and take over the city. At the meeting, a rival leader kills Cyrus, but a Coney Island gang called the Warriors is wrongly blamed for Cyrus' death. Before you know it, the cops and every gangbanger in town is hot on the Warriors' trail.

Reminded me of the gangs in my old neighbourhood... The Turn Coats, The Brown Coats and The Duffel Coats The Nik Naks, The Paddy Whacks and The Give a Dog a Bones The Smarty Pants, The Ants in Your Pants and The Sycophants The Super Doops, The Loop the Loops and The Pooper Scoops Back to the film... Its good but dated. Seems more Hollywood fantasy of what gangs were like in New York. I'm no expert, I was part of the Book Worm gang in my town, but surely they were more violent than this? But what do I know?!
I don't understand why this film is popular? Almost cartoonist variations of "gangs" and an 80's soundtrack might bring nostalgic for some? I was left feeling underwhelmed. I didn't care about the characters and they were left without growth. This is a "cult classic" I don't agree with.
I used to watch this movie in the 80’s as a teen…. I was obsessed with it. Years later it didn’t disappoint.
One of my favorites. Period. It's a rousing, stylistic, masculine mash of ideas that could be considered a lot more dangerous and militant if the whole thing weren't soo comic book arch. But between the music, the costume design, and the set pieces, this is as entertaining as throwing on one of your favorite albums and just going along for the ride.
