LIFF37 2023 #10 Why does this feel like a Love, Death, & Robots episode? It is a fascinating creative choice to follow the life-cycle of a salmon, but the catch is its human form instead of fish. I know how odd it sounds, but it does have a purpose. It is supposed to make us more sympathetic toward the salmon's dramatic journey by adding a human element. And when the human salmon get caught by fishermen and cut up, it’s more disturbing and gorier to watch. It gets its artistic approach across effectively.

Like a documentary on the whole story of the migration of a female salmon from birth to the moment she comes back to give birth. Except here the salmons are represented by human swimmers. The phenomenon itself is interesting even if pretty well known, and it gives a whole other look to their epic migration. It looks great, with beautiful shots of rivers, both over and under water. Simple but interesting idea, and great animation.
