Really enjoyed this movie. They do an excellent job building a creepy atmosphere and leading the viewer down false paths.
First act was decent, dealing with loss and grief. Characters are interesting. The second act was the best it really pushed the mystery. Definitely a film that relies heavily on the mystery and the effectiveness of the twist. Surprised Shyamalan didn't write this. By the time the third act began I had already predicted the twist (and i'm usually terrible at predicting a twist). I do like the twist though, great idea. The ending was a bit of a let down it was so incredibly cliché and everything the characters did was predictable 2 moves ahead. The whole cast did well, great suspence, creepy kid. An ok watch. A bit forgettable.
A VERY GOOD MOVIE TO WATCH
The dark psychological thriller Hide and Seek is well-crafted, but the material is pretty familiar. After the death of his wife psychiatrist David Callaway moves to a rural community to help his daughter recover, but when she develops a new imaginary friend things take a disturbing turn. Starring Robert De Niro, Dakota Fanning, Elisabeth Shue, and Famke Janssen, the cast is especially good and delivers strong performances. Additionally, director John Polson does an impressive job at building suspense and creating intrigue. Still, it’s rather clear from the start what the twist will be and the clues are fairly obvious. Yet the script is clever enough to work in a few misleads, and executes the reveal effectively. Though a little predictable, Hide and Seek is entertaining and mysterious.
A terrifying, somewhat confusing but very thrilling horror movie about schizophrenic David (DeNiro) with 4 open endings. Unfortunately all the endings aren't very good.
