I was prepared for the worst, turns out it's a totally fun film. It even tops the original in my opinion. The fact that this is a direct-to-video sequel make me appreciate more. It delivers the prefect tone for a light-hearted, action-orientated small B-horror. The violence may be toned down this time around but the effects work remains strong and it has this cheesy low budget charm to it that I love. I think it's more inventive and clever and doesn't feel same-y like most creature feature sequel does. It keeps its story moving by not only changing the setting and adding a few more characters in the mix but also offering evolutionary changes to the creatures that keeps you in suspense from a new and unexpected threat. Michael Gross is back as awesome Burt Gummer.
I was hesitant to watch this as I wasn’t really a fan of the first one. I’ve heard good things about the franchise so I decided to try this one. I definitely enjoyed it more than the first. Grady as the sidekick wanting to be like Earl fits well with this story. Burt is absolutely hilarious and not just an accessory to his annoying wife in the first. The first film tried to put more focus on horror whereas the sequel just wants the viewer to have fun.
Tremors 2 was a super badass sequel and was a shit ton of fun overall with so so many awesome over the top moments that you simply just can’t help but love thanks to Burt and his trusty never ending stash of guns, bombs, MREs and snipers which are basically full on rocket launchers (yes of course that was my favourite scene). The characters were all super cool and honestly it’s hard to pick a favourite as I liked nearly all of them. I thought Earl was great and he is a pretty awesome main character, although it does suck that his partner Kevin Bacon is not in it this time around but hey, at least we still have the badass himself Burt who was such a beast once again, I also really liked Grady a lot too as he was like so freaking funny with how stupid he was. The Tremors were as gross and plain disgusting as ever and somehow this time they can bloody walk which was pretty ridiculous but you know I didn’t even mind it too much as they were quite cool actually and looked like Demogorgon’s. The story was decent although incredibly dumb in some parts like how those guys at the start of the movie were willing to pay Earl who is just an ordinary guy like £50.000 for every Tremor that he kills other than just hire the army of specially trained soldiers who would do the job in bloody seconds. I suppose you can’t take the story that seriously here though so it doesn’t really bother that much too be honest, still funny though. I wouldn’t say that this films better than the first movie but it’s pretty damm close (I dunno if it is just me who thinks that either) and it’s definitely more fun and wacky at least I would say and I’m Tremors a very gross 8 out of 10, it’s a very solid sequel. 8/10
Not as good as the original but a decent flick.
