She does not know 'sekai'
Two rogue vagrants make their living as "manure men", turning the waste from the tenement toilets into fertiliser sold to local farmers. Enter Okiku, the only daughter of a fallen samurai, and amongst the overflowing piles of excrement, a well-nourished love story unfolds.

• A film that's simple and clean but carries the scent of excrement. • I can't help but feel that these two Edo period night soil collectors share many similarities with modern-day workers, even in terms of their sense of injustice. • Placing the story in the period before the Meiji Restoration gives the term "world" an extraordinary significance, but the lives of ordinary people can only be swept along with the tide of progress. • Sosuke Ikematsu's acting is better than Kaho's.
