Confused by the low scoring so far on here, especially after the great first two eps. The art is immaculate, and the subject is fun and interesting; definitely not something I've seen tackled in anime before. The music is right up my alley too, don't understand how this is sitting at 58% at all.
If you keep the unnecessary cringyness and weird dresses aside this show has a pretty good plot to offer. I liked it more than what I thought.
...Huh. One prefacing comment before my real discussion: I can't tell if this is Queerbait: The Anime or if you're _supposed_ to give into the heavy implications. (
One of the many, many instances: "Reki, my love... of skateboarding is because of you."
) Off the bat, this anime is gorgeous. I love the physics and attention to detail in (most of [see below]) the character's movements, posing, and weight. This show really seemed to have a lot of love and care for the subject matter of skating, and it such a great series to get hyped for the hobby/sport. The characters are lovable and memorable... Well, except the elephant in the room. Basically, the whole schtick of the anime is about skateboard racing where sabotage is free game. ...But the antagonist takes it overboard time and time again without consequence. Surely _someone_ would think to stop him, right? I found it really distracting, also, that Adam was the only one who seemed to consistently defy physics. The message of the overall show is kinda corny, but it's cute in it's own right, too. Disorganized thoughts here, but Reki's three-episode-long pout fest was kind of annoying and disheartening, as well. The ending was unfortunately weak and I really wished the main antagonist had more resolve, redemption, or character development, because it was very clear he had a devastating backstory that could have contributed to his current state. Anyways, 8/10, I will probably watch it again. Oh, and, P.S: The soundtrack is sick.
Definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would, a little cringey but overall it was good. Absolutely loved the art style too
