I've never been into races but I live near a racetrack for nascar and during christmas time they string up elaborate christmas lights displays around the stadium and people super slowly drive thru em and everything and I work there every year from like mid november to early January. The feeling of getting there at 4pm and just sitting and waiting for others to come while you're in a thick winter jacket yet still freezing and you look down at the 1-2 cars driving round the small inner track... just great. can you tell i can't wait until christmas time? lol. This movie was like the opposite of that experience. Still liked it
Typical 2000s comedy movie. Has some funny parts and some forgettable parts.
Enjoyed this a lot more on the rewatch than I originally did when it came out. I think I had an issue with Ferrell prior to "Elf" and once that film flipped me, I've enjoyed his films more. But let's face it...this is not his movie. It is owned by Walker and Texas Ranger. They steal every scene they are in. Which is good, because Sacha Baron Cohen's work puts it in the minus column. Luckily, the movie has some bonafide knee slappers in here that make it good fun to watch.
Even though most of the best parts of this movie had been given up in the previews, I had a smile on my face the whole time. I think they combined the best parts of Frank the Tank with Ron Burgundy and came up with one great NASCAR driver. I don't think they left one element out in their pursuit of mocking all things NASCAR. We had trophy wives, dim-wit pit crew members, ridiculous masculinity showings, fear of homosexuals, love of Southern Rock, and of course, my favorite, the obligatory Dale Earnhardt (dead one) reference. It was quick and just a cutout on the fence, but you knew it HAD to be there. Ali G completely steals the show in this movie. Little weird seeing a Frenchman not run at the first sign of conflict but he really delivered the goods. The scene where he introduced his husband and the disgusted appalled response of the NASCROWD was priceless. Loved the reference to _Highlander_ winning the Oscar for "Best Movie of All-Time". Whether you love NASCAR or love making fun of it, this movie has plenty of laughs for all. Check it out, I'm sure you'll enjoy.
Still holds up twenty years later. Don’t miss your chance to catch it in theaters! Shake n bake!!
