The best Steven Seagal movie ever. But even with that, Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey out shine Seagal in every scene.
equally entertaining, but seeing in Latin hurts your ears, Glenn Moreshower and Raymond Cruz is very young, Erika eleinak, vey hot
Under Siege is exactly what its reputation promises: Die Hard on a battleship, played straight, loud, and confident. Watching it end to end instead of living on the rewind button ( you know why ) is kind of a revelation it’s a solid, no-nonsense ’90s action ride once it gets rolling. That said, nostalgia doesn’t lie. The birthday cake scene is still the high point quick, cheeky, and burned permanently into pop-culture memory. Everything else is sturdy rather than spectacular: good pacing, practical action, and a delightfully unhinged Tommy Lee Jones chewing scenery like it’s part of the mission briefing. The Arrow 4K presentation makes the steel and grease textures pop without over polishing things, but this movie lives or dies on vibes, not fidelity. It knows exactly what it is and never pretends otherwise. Fun, dumb, effective action comfort food. not an ultra-classic, but an easy good time and yeah, the cake scene still earns top billing. Six out of ten.
Here's the deal: it's not awful, but there was a lot left on the table with what we got. Steven Seagal has the charisma of a bran flake box. The dialogue is terrible half the time. Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones ( and Seagal for that matter) are not acting but doing their usual schtick. Seagal attempts some Cajun accent and then loses it pretty quickly. I know this director is competent. There were several scenes that had good directing and cinematography. The writing was pretty bad, although how they treated Miss July was better than I would have thought. There were moments that were awesome and then moments that felt like my eyes glazed over. The ending especially was anticlimactic. For how I felt by the end, I give this a low rating because it ultimately upset me more than a neutral response.
Big budget 90s action starring Seagal and with an appearance by President Bush should have been an automatic 10/10... 'Cept this tries to be serious rather than just be enjoyable schlock. Tommy Lee Jones is horribly miscast as a wacked-out vietnam vet with a grudge, while Gary Busey is very well-cast as an insane crossdressing Navy commander. It was cool to see Tuco from Breaking Bad and O'Brien from Star Trek.
