This isn't as bad as the reviews let on. Cage has taken on a bit better roles lately, and there is no changing his acting style. I found the movie depressing in areas to see how greedy humans can become over time. The scenery was amazing, however.
Like a nature screensaver or wallpaper: pretty to look at and pretty predictable. Butcher's Crossing is exactly the same as the Deadliest Catch except with bison instead of crabs and the 1800s instead of the ocean. Oh, and worse actors.
Cage is back with other hardcore drama. I love you Nicholas you always deliver. Hella deep...for real. this movie aint no joke
It wasn't a "bad" movie but I certainly wouldn't call it a "good" movie. Nicolas Cage has always been a favorite of mine but here, he plays quite a subdued "non-Nicolas Cage" type role. Although the film's poster art makes this seem like it's a Nic Cage film, this is much more about the "Will Andrews" character, portrayed by Fred Hechinger. My biggest complaint about _Butcher's Crossing_ is simply that it was a non-story; there was very little to it, yet they dragged it out for almost 2 hours. There was some great cinematography in the film, along with some amazing scenery, but as far as the story itself, well...the "Meh" rating that I gave it speaks clearly of my assessment. Not bad, but you won't miss anything if you skip it. You won't gain anything by watching it...other than to say you watched it, but you certainly won't miss anything if you give it a pass. I was expecting far more, and I came away quite disappointed.
Nick Cage delivers his expected character in this mainstream-y drama misery porn set in the near extinction of the American buffalo. Not bad, good cause, much predictable.
