Incredibly interesting. Incredibly awful. You won't forget this anytime soon.
More drugs were involved in the making of just five minutes of this movie than in the entirety of Keith Richards life.
There is a scene in the movie where excrement is transformed into gold, which serves as a form of contempt for gold. It reminds me of a saying by Friedrich Nietzsche, who stated that everything rare and precious, like gold, is ultimately useless. The film as a whole is very bold and strange, and not easy for just anyone to watch. Yet, I found profound lessons and philosophy behind it. In particular, I was struck by scenes such as the one where a character carries his friend and is told to throw him away because he is nothing but an illusion — a message meant for all of us. Likewise, the ending, where the film calls us to live in reality and abandon illusions, is especially relevant to us humans, and even more so to those who hold on to superstitions. I would like to conclude my reflection with a line from the movie: “Forget the mountains; attain eternity through love.”
How do I even begin to talk about this film? An utter spectacle; a feast for the eyes, and an exhausting exercise for the puzzled mind. This is just non-stop insanity and ingenious creativity. I need to watch this another five times to soak it all in. Inject it into my veins. Special shoutout to that guy who yelled "Rub your clitoris against the mountain."
Probably, Yorgos Lanthimos' favorite movie. On a serious note, I need to dive deep into the rabbit hole to understand the hidden motifs and controversies surrounding this weird yet profound movie.
