Too dense for a single viewing.
Weird and nonsensical. There is some appeal in that for me, but not at great amount.
I found the forced symbolism more funny than thought provoking. It's like they got there hand on some cheap props and had a go at it. It's almost a spoof of itself because it's so cheap and ridiculous. The sound mix in this movie is also atrocious. Sometimes the cinematography is good but with no purpose other than more imagery. Spiritual imagery of all the imagery. It bored me.I suppose it is biblical in that it makes as much sense as the bible.
This is what happens when a surrealist (Jodorowsky, fan of Salvador Dali), makes a Spaghetti Western à la Eastwood or Django. Add extra violence, nudity, some anachronisms and truly bizarre characters to the cocktail and you have a movie that is just something else .. but that somehow works. I guess that most people either love or hate this movie… For my part, I quite like it ;-) … but I really have to be in the right mood for such movie to fully appreciate it. This movie is certainly not your standard popcorn cinema and also certainly for adults only. PS: Make sure to find a complete version to watch, as many versions out there are heavily censored!
I really expected to enjoy this, especially considering how much I enjoyed The Holy Mountain. Sadly, I didn't.
