Pretty people fucking in pretty places. Aside from the cast being eye candy this movie didn't have much going for it.
A good film overall with excellent performances from the cast and atmospheric direction from Tonnerre. The plot will be familiar to those who have read Lawrence's novel but that shouldn't be a reason to skip out on this small gem.
It's an adaptation of classic D.H. Lawrence novel. It's about a lady stuck in a sad marriage & finds love outside. The scenery, nature's beauty is pleasing throughout. It's not bad, but nothing much good. The story didn't appeal to me. Even though it's supposed to be about freedom and living life fully, I cannot make sense of what happened the way they did. Also found it slow at times, some scenes went on for too long without serving a clear purpose. The book was controversial for its openness on sex & the movie certainly goes there. But I think there were more explicit scenes than actually needed. Felt less about showing connection & more just nudity, which pulls you out of the story sometimes. The actors gave their all, the whole cast did an excellent job, but I still didn't easily connect with the characters and their choices. It felt a bit thin, and maybe that's just my subjective take.
Netflix’s _Lady Chatterley’s Lover_ is an adequate but rather shallow adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s novel. The story follows the wife of a wealthy aristocrat who has an affair with one of the estate’s field hands and is forced to choose between love and her social position. Emma Corrin gives a fairly strong performance but the script is weak; particularly at developing the romance and the deterioration of Chatterley’s marriage. However, the sets and costumes are exceptionally well-done, and director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre does an impressive job at capturing the beauty of the English countryside. Yet while it’s a well-crafted film, _Lady Chatterley’s Lover_ is a mediocre period drama that doesn’t offer any new insight on the material.
It's ok, but will never go down as a classic. There isn't (thankfully) a whole bunch of dragged out scenes before they start knocking boots, but I'm sure in real life back then it would have taken a bit more time to work up the courage to roger the bosses wife! The husband is a wet noodle with zero personality. 7/10
