I thought it’ll be a dark comedy and it is… but it gets darker than expected. Starts almost light, simple setup, you understand the situation quickly, but then it keeps pushing it further. Abuse, control, revenge, it doesn’t treat any of it lightly even when it wraps it in humor. That balance is tricky, and it doesn’t always hold perfectly. Some moments feel uncomfortable in a way that makes you question if you should be laughing or not. But that’s also what works. It stays messy, like the characters themselves. Alia really carries it. You can see the shift, from fear to control, and it never feels sudden. It’s not clean, not easy, but it sticks with you more because of that.

Pertinent, Engaging, Important Darlings is a deliciously crafted dark comedy which relies on some stunning lead performances and a relevant and important message. Outlining a sensitive issue of domestic violence and masterfully making a revenge film out of is definitely praiseworthy. First half of the film is hard hitting, dark and intense but post-interval for a brief period the film misses the plot , becomes underwhelming but comes back strong in the end. The film is engaging, with smartly placed humor elements , powered by outstanding performances by Vijay Verma, Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah. Roshan Mathews role was to be a charming and likeable person and he does that pretty well. La Ilaaj song is such a relaxing and heartmelting song by Arijit Singh.
