Watch the Renegade version instead. Much better.
I want a restored theatrical cut!!! I wanna see the version that flipped everybody out in the first place. This one is fun tho.
**SPOILERS AHEAD!** ------------------------------------------- WTF was that ending?!?!?! The movie is clearly rushed and full of mistakes; it’s one of those films that, if you start picking at the details, you could go on all day. So I’ll try not to go into that kind of nitpicking here. Let’s see, some quick, messy points. The villain tries to be like the one from the first movie, but it feels like he’s “trying too hard.” The Kurgan from the first one was immense — a beast, completely unhinged, but it worked. He was just a madman. This guy feels more like Jared Leto trying to be the Joker — he’s giving it his all, but no. What’s going on with MacLeod? He’s a scientist now? He supposedly used the “Prize” from the first movie to... create an anti-radiation shield? Sorry, I said I wouldn’t question the details. The whole Highlander universe expansion and its explanations are a mess. I like the sci-fi world they set up with the solar radiation thing, sure. But it’s not Highlander. Turns out the immortals are from another planet and Ramirez and MacLeod already knew each other? But in the first one they don’t remember because... potato, I guess. From what I know, the production was a disaster, which explains everything. Speaking of that, I don’t get why Ramirez shows up again. The movie’s justification is literally “a wizard did it.” It’s hilarious. That said, I still accept it — Ramirez is an amazing character and probably the best part of the movie, even if it makes no sense. More of him, please. I should mention the way women are used as "tools" for the development of the male characters, I guess. The first movie had a bit of that, but here it’s just wild. That “sex” scene in the alley after MacLeod becomes immortal — what the hell was that??? Where does the attraction come from? It completely threw me off. Lastly, what I loved most about the first film — its visual and sound design... Yeah, none of that here. Well, fine, I suppose. All that said, it *is* entertaining. It’s engaging enough to watch all the way through without wanting to do something else — which is more than can be said for many movies. It’s a decent film, but a terrible sequel.
Confusing, conflicting twist on the original storyline. There are few positives in this sequal and anything I got from this movie just tainted the original storyline. If you enjoyed the original stop there!
Tangled version of the origins of the characters
