Sieben junge Leute reisen aufs Land.

The movie follows a group of friends, as they travel to the backwoods in search of a mysterious serial killer. What could go wrong? If you've seen _Wrong Turn_ (2003), _The Texas Chainsaw Massacre_ (1974) or, hell, _Friday the 13th_ (1980), you've already watched a better version of this. The first, and second acts are so slow, and spend so much time building our group of five, that I thought it was going to lead somewhere and have a huge payoff. Alas, the third act is a giant swing and a miss. The only reason I bothered to watch this is because it has the same writer and director as _Contracted_ (2013), one of my favorite horror movies. _Madison County_ doesn't come anywhere close to what that one is. Aside from being abysmally slow, the movie's death toll is only five - and no, that's just our main group of five. Other people may have been killed too, but I'm talking about on-screen deaths. Our killer is very disappointing, and too much time is put into building a mythology that adds up to nothing. It's almost as if this was expected to start a franchise, to fill in the missing pieces. Slow, boring, light on blood, a weak ending. There's just nothing here. If you've already seen every other slasher movie ever made, maybe watch this. Or just go rewatch a better slasher movie instead.
