“What if we take divorce, wrap it in glitter, and hope nobody notices the emotional whiplash?” And weirdly, it works more often than it fumbles. Varun Dhawan is finally in a zone where his loudness actually fits the character, Kiara is calm, steady oxygen in every scene, and Anil Kapoor walks in like chaos wearing a blazer. Neetu Kapoor adds quiet dignity that the script desperately needs. The film pretends to be a comedy but keeps slipping into surprisingly honest moments about marriage, ego and generational mess. Some of it hits hard, some of it feels engineered for applause, but the pacing stays tight and the performances keep it afloat. It’s glossy, loud, occasionally sharp, occasionally shallow, but always watchable. A family entertainer that’s smarter than it looks, dumber than it should be, and carried by a cast working overtime.
When the movie was released, there was somewhat of a hype around it. From the trailers, it appeared to be just another typical Bollywood Punjabi thing. Then someone in the group said it surprisingly had some deeper tones and that it would be worth a watch. Now having seen it, I think the best point of the movie is the line 'रिश्ता टूटने की कोई एक वजह नहीं होती है…बहुत सी अधूरी लड़ाइयो की थकान होती है…', and that is in the trailer. A younger couple Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani are not happy in their marriage, so they decide to end things. They have to tell their parents, but it isn't that easy. Varun's father Anil Kapoor is thinking of ending his marriage with Neetu Singh as well. What unfolds after is the story of Jug Jugg Jeeyo. When western filmmakers film India, they are criticised for using the blanket yellow filter to show the baked earth environment all over the place. Jay Patel's camera does the opposite for scenes shot in Canada. That was a funny observation I had. I had ample time to make such observations. The movie never really connected. Varun is a talented actor. He has given the likes of Badlapur and even ABCD2 (yeah, I enjoyed it). Apart from showing his abs for absolutely no demand of the story, there is nothing for him to do here. Kiara sails in the same boat. She is typecast now in very similar roles. She has some good expressions and I think she should challenge herself a bit more. Anil Kapoor is having the best time of his life though. There is hardly any scene where he does not steal the show. The man is just enjoying these later years of his career. The movie is largely a miss. except for Anil Kapoor's breezy performance, Neetu's that one line mentioned above, and the final number (originally attributed to Kavita Sheth) Rangi Saari, the movie offers very little. You can get all these from the trailer and skip watching this.
Congenial, Enjoyable & Heartfelt JugJugg Jeeyo is a breezy, light-hearted dramedy that stays true to its genre by providing some delectable humor, praiseworthy performances, and warm emotions. At times, Jugjugg Jeeyo's drama can be a bit too much, but for Indians who appreciate good drama, it was a pleasurable experience. The performances of the entire ensemble cast are magnificent, especially Varun's which surprised me a bit with how he has matured over the years. The production values of the film are spectacular and vibrant, the music is amusing and the entertainment quotient is definitely on the higher side. Raj Mehta after Good Newz comes up with a delightful rollercoaster. Check my page www.instagram.com/stream.genx

Even if standard for similar caliber Indian films, here its length and its forced conclusion were really heavy and noticeable. Not recommended given the alternatives available.
