Straightforward scary movie set in a very creative environment. As some real tense moments and the underwater works well but also use to many vulgar horror cliché making it an average movie
The concept is so unique, that makes the entire film very watchable and solid.
This is the newest horror film from French duo Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury following Tina and Ben who are a couple of young youtubers specialized in abandoned building exploration videos. They're on trip for their new video. After reaching their destination, the lake is too crowded and obviously isn't suitable for diving. Lucky for them there's a local there who knows a remote lake area where a preserved house is completely submerged and he agrees to take them there. This is probably the best haunted house film I've ever seen. It's fun, unique, tense, and actually scary. The subgenre is tiring already so seeing film like this is refreshing. It still has the usual haunted house formula but the fact that it's underwater makes it a lot scarier. The acting's mostly ok, there are moments where I find them annoying but never in an irritating way. The highlight of the film is the setting and visuals. They're fantastic and elevate the film a lot since the exploration aspect fills the most runtime. The water is dark and murky giving you very limited vision and there's a lot of creepy floating objects. Since it's underwater, it got me anxiety filled throughout and the oxygen level as a time bomb effectively increase the tension.
The Urbex-diving idea is interesting, but the whole movie is definitely poor.
Well, you sure haven't seen a movie set in this setting before, but the movie is going over fairly standard plot points. Because of the setting though, it adds a creepiness factor that makes it entertaining to watch. It does take a while to get to the house, which is annoying, but once there, it really starts to crank up the creepy in all the right ways.
