71 | The animation had a similarity to an animation-documentary film called Tower. It had a different style than the most animation films we had ever watched. The decision Richard Linklater made the film into animation was the right choice with that kind of long narration which explain Stan's family background. But unfortunately, it was too much and take 3/4 of the film just for the backstories. Even though they nailed the backstories with an entertaining style of narration, it felt overpowering the main purpose of a backstory, which is to give us an understanding of the main event. How come backstories worked properly if the main event was only 1/4 of the film. Or there is another way to understand this film. The main story was not about Stan going to the moon but mainly about his family. The moon landing plot was only a plot device to introduce us to his family. If that so then we could have a better experience watching this film. ••••••••••••••••••••••• Rating: 70.25 Plot P1: 1.5 P2: 1.4 P3: 1.3 P4: 1.2 Director: Richard Linklater Favorite Characters 1.5: Jack Black as Grown Up Stan 1.2: Milo Coy as Stan 1.1: Bill Wise as Dad 1.1: Josh Wiggins as Steve 1.0: Natalie L'Amoreaux as Vicky 1.0: Lee Eddy as Mom Written by Kornelius Harda Wicaksana
Truly nostalgic if you were born in the 60s-80s
A nice little story based on the director's childhood. Full of details of the time. Heartfelt and light.
Nostalgia-done-right while at the same time criticizing everything that was wrong in the 60s-70s.
I wasn't born in the 60's and was nostalgic about this movie.
