Handlung
Hanna (Hani Furstenberg) und ihr Mann Benjamin (Ishai Golan) wünschen sich dringlichst ein Kind, seit sie ihr erstes verloren haben. Sie glaubt, dass Gott ihnen dabei helfen wird und studiert täglich die Thora – wenn auch nur heimlich, weil dies in der abgeschotteten jüdischen Gemeinde, in der sie leben, nur Männern erlaubt ist. Doch dann muss sich die Gemeinde gegen Eindringlinge wehren: Christen geben den Juden die Schuld an einer Pestepidemie. Hanna glaubt, alle beschützen zu können, indem sie einen Golem beschwört. Die Kreatur ist aber womöglich viel böser, als die Frau dachte…

Ignore the negative reviews on this page. The Golem is an attempt at something new in the world of horror and it mostly works. Its a little slow at times but it is very atmospheric and there are lots of memorable scenes. I suspect people with an interest in the folklore behind this film will appreciate it more than most.

No Golem, just a boring movie with a possesed child, nothing new, nothing scary, just fulltime boring (ok, first scene was nice, but thats it).

And all too rare foray into the sadly neglected world of Jewish mysticism and monsters, the Golem only offers tantalizing tidbits of the rich fantastic world it springs from.
