Trigun: Badlands Rumble is a solid, enjoyable entry in the Trigun universe that will especially please longtime fans. Set in the dusty, quicksand-surrounded town of Makka, the film kicks off with a classic Western-style setup — rumors of the legendary robber Gasback draw bounty hunters, and Vash the Stampede turns up to shake things up alongside Meryl, Milly, Amelia and Nicholas D. Wolfwood. At a brisk 1h 31m, it’s compact and entertaining. What works The animation and action are clean and energetic — Madhouse gives the film a polished, cinematic look that suits the gunplay and set pieces well. Character chemistry is the highlight: Vash’s trademark mix of goofiness and heart plays nicely off the supporting cast, and Wolfwood brings the gravitas fans expect. The movie balances humor and stakes effectively, delivering a handful of memorable moments without overstaying its welcome. Strong Japanese voice talent helps sell both the lighter beats and the darker turns. What doesn’t As a standalone movie, it sometimes feels like a condensed side-story rather than a deeply consequential chapter — the villain Gasback and some plot threads don’t get as much development as they could. Pacing can be uneven: set-up and exposition eat up time that might have been better spent on deeper character moments or a more resonant climax. If you’re not already invested in the Trigun world, a few emotional beats may land less powerfully.
