Handlung
Maya ist Anfang 40 und ziemlich frustriert. Sie hat sich im größten Supermarkt von Queens bis zur stellvertretenden Filialleiterin hochgearbeitet, doch den Chefposten kann sie sich ohne vernünftigen Schulabschluss abschminken. Da bekommt sie eine zweite Chance: Ohne ihr Wissen poliert der Sohn ihrer besten Freundin Joan Mayas Lebenslauf auf und verpasst ihr gleich auch noch den passenden Social Media-Auftritt. Prompt erhält sie eine Einladung zu einem Vorstellungsgespräch nach Manhattan, und ehe sie sich versieht, findet sie sich als Marketing-Beraterin mit eigenem Büro bei einem Kosmetikkonzern wieder. Maya erfindet sich von Grund auf neu, um der Welt zu zeigen, dass Cleverness mindestens so wertvoll ist wie ein College-Diplom. Doch wie lange kann sie ihre falsche Identität aufrechterhalten?

An interesting twist on a love story. A great cast. An improbable scenario with a predictable ending common to the genre. Good light viewing. I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. [Dramedy]

Wow. Unexpectedly, this movie turns out to have one of the biggest twists in 2019 so far. The way this was marketed, I was expecting the kind of traditional comedy we haven't really seen a lot of since the 90's. While there is some of that influence, a significant portion of the movie is straight up drama, with long stretches devoid of any meaningful sense of comedy. Still - my mismatched expectations aside - the movie mostly worked. I enjoyed the comedic aspects, and actually did end up feeling somewhat investment in the dramatic aspects. Seven out of ten feels exactly right for this movie - it was pretty good. Nothing more, nothing less.
