TV-Film. Eine Mischung aus Fortsetzung und Remake des Hitchcock-Klassikers. Der Regisseur versteckt sich zu recht hinter dem Pseudonym Alan Smithee. Gastauftritt: Tippi Hedren.

It certainly comes as no surprise to anyone that a TV sequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Birds," which was released to the public without much fanfare 31 years later, is a complete dud. I didn’t find the birds particularly interesting in Hitchcock’s film either, but they definitely weren’t as boring as they are in "The Birds II: Land’s End." That said, there isn’t all that much bird action to be seen anyway—just a whole lot of tedious family melodrama. Maybe that would be more interesting if the actors delivered more convincing performances. But since they don’t, I can really only advise against watching this completely unnecessary sequel.
The Birds II: Land's End, gets dogged on a lot, but it's such low-hanging fruit that the criticisms often feels lazy. Sure, it's not up to the standard of the original Hitchcock masterpiece, but c'mon... for a TV movie from the '90s, this is surprisingly decent, offering a watchable, if slightly campy, attempt to revisit the terror of our feathered friends turning against humanity.
