Even after almost 80 years, The Most Dangerous Game still holds-up. The lighting, design, and cinematography all contribute to an effetively creepy mood. The performances are adequate-not stellar, but not so far over the top as to be off-putting. Highly recommended.
The film that started the theme of hunting humans as sport / fun. Despite the years it remains well. Better than many current ones that deal with the same topic
feels like it's 80% set-up with only slight pay-off in the end but not without its moments, still. most of said moments come down to scattered line deliveries making me feel like i was going to have a hernia (the "OH, IT GOT ME" with the cadence of being irritated by a slight setback vs. idk getting fucking mauled by a shark???, "HUNT MEN???", or literally anything out of Leslie Banks' mouth) but i'm not going to be picky about it. there was also the portion where the dogs were chasing Robert and Eve but the one didn't quite make it up the ledge it climbed and it slid back down. stupid ass. 😭 loved what we got of some of the exterior settings in the last 15 mins or so. wish there was a bit more of it.
The sole survivor of a shipwreck finds himself in the house of Count Zaroff, who, as it turns out, loves hunting — not just animals but human prey! While Zaroff is a fun character (he suspiciously looks and sounds like Dracula), the hero is pretty generic. The sets are nice, and I appreciated the mystery and tension at the beginning. It later gets a bit boring — but for a 1932 film, I'm impressed.
Old movie, but this movie felt too short.
