Wow. Was this ever boring. Don't understand why this was reviewed so highly.
Both emotionally moving and very funny at times, this is a great movie for everybody, not just those other people.
Not much of a Drama, comedy. if there was a category for normal life, this would have been it. Shows the life of a family dealing with the mother having cancer and the emotions everyone goes through. For those that never thought about or lived this type of situation, its eye opening but no wow factor. It was hard to watch without thinking of something else in my life, but enjoyable. Not a great story line, mediocre acting, (I do think Jesse Clemons held this movie together, but I do think his range could have been better. This movie reminds me of the move Stepmom-1998. That was a much better pick.
It’s quite a few funny bits and the pretext about the gay son coming back for his dying mother is really soulful, especially when they were horrible about his sexuality. I don’t know, I think I like it.
This is a movie that deals with alot of common themes; family life, difficult news, dealing with sexuality, life and death. And it does them quite well. Jesse Plemmons is rather good as the main character, and Molly Shannon is excellent as the mum. It was very funny in 2 or 3 places but the constant product placement got on my nerves - maybe that's how the movie was financed, but every 5 minutes there was a mention of pepsi, jc penney or applebee's etc It will not break any cinematic moulds but is ok for a gentle nights movie viewing. 6.9 cup cakes out of 10.
