The summer nights might be hot but this movie is lukewarm. A good cast, but there is nothing new in the story.
Was hoping for more out of Chalamet and A24 teaming up but overall decent movie although the movie dosen't seem to be sure on what it wants to be or what it's message is.
perfect encapsulation of the cultural moment
*Hot Summer People* Two romance stories in the middle of a hurricane and a drug dealing complication. There's all sorts of tension be it romantic, dramatic or thriller-y but I preferred it when it was romantic that's when the movie's at it's best. Some brutal violence I didn't see coming at all, great song choices throughout, aesthetically pleasing and the voiceover works like magic. The performances are all great, especially Timothée Chalamet he really excelled in body language facial expressions and the chemistry with Maika Monroe is palpable. I enjoyed the first half a lot more than the second, don't really like what it turned into. Third act didn't do much for me. A bit too dramatic and over-the-top for what the movie used to be in the first half.
Decent movie overall even if it doesn't quite stick the landing ...
